Removal of classic Volvo rear brake drums
Rear brake drums can be very hard to take off and it is easy to destroy the axle using too much force while at it.
Normally you use a brake drum puller but please be careful so that the drum doesn’t get deformed or the threads getting destroyed.
If you are facing problems taking it off you can use heat, preferable from a gas welding machine.
Heat and cool by turns, be careful with the heat and cool down with compressed air.
The drum puller keeps tight while working the drum (not the axle end) until it is possible to remove it. If you are careful and work patiently you’ll manage to to save both axle, drum and the rest of it.
If you use copper paste on the axle shaft it can help prevent you from getting the same problem in the future.
