  • Installation of alternator with internal regulator in Volvo B18 and B20

    1. To prevent any damage, remove one wire from the battery.
    2. Remove the wires from the old alternator and remove the alternator.
    3. Install the new alternator.
    4. Install the battery wire to the new alternator. Note that the new alternator has a flat pin connection marked B+. Use the hardware that come with the alternator to connect.
    5. Find the wire to the indicator lamp that previously was connected to the external regulator.
    Note that the indicator lamp must be connected in order to get the alternator to work properly.
    6. Connect the wire to the indicator lamp to the flat pin marked D+.
    7. If a negative wire is used, connect it to the alternator housing. (B-)
    8. Reconnect the battery wire.
    9. Tighten the fan belt.
    10. You are done, start the engine.

    NOTE! B20 engines will not clear the new alternator.
    Modifications of the bracket or replace to MRG-9851 bent bracket is recommended.


    Fits at engines with Alternator mounting points (Mounting with one screw in the engine front). If the car had a dynamo before you additionally need the upgrade
    bracket,419598.

    The 55A Alternator housing is bigger than the 33A Version.
    When replacing the Dynamo with the big 55 A Alternator at some vehicle models the old straight arm touches the alternator housing. use brakcet MRG-9851

    Additionally is may be necesary to use a longer belt.


    When converting from a DC alternator to this three-phase alternator, the external regulator must be omitted. All connections to this must be eliminated.


    - The cable at connection D+ of the external controller is connected to D+ on the new generator
    - The cable at connection B+ of the external controller is connected to B+ on the new generator
    - The cables DF and D- do not need to be connected to the new generator


    After assembly, check the belt track; if necessary, this must be corrected with washers between the alternator and the holding points.
